Bouquet Garni

A bouquet garni, French for 'garnished bouquet' is a classical French mixture of herbs, tied together, that is cooked with a dish but removed prior to serving.

It traditionally consists of a few sprigs of thyme, marjoram, parsley and bay leaves that are bundled together and added to soups, stews and casseroles.

When using dried herbs, they are usually tied up in a cheesecloth, tea bag or other porous container. A coffee filter tied with unflavoured dental floss does the trick in a pinch.
