Marjoram (Origanum Majorana)

Sweet marjoram is a dense, tender perennial with deep green leaves and tiny white flowers. Sweet marjoram grows to 1 foot high.

Native to the Mediterranean region, marjoram was very popular in Greece and Egypt. Known as the "joy of the mountains" because of the joyous aroma and appearance it created growing on hillsides by the Greeks, it was used to make wreaths and garlands at weddings and funerals and was said to be precious to Aphrodite.

Marjoram tastes similar to mild oregano, with a mildly savory and thyme flavour. It is used in salads, stews, sautés, marinades, dressings, cheese, soups and stuffing. Marjoram is commonly used in French, Portuguese and Italian cuisines. It complements beef, veal, lamb, poultry, fish, green vegetables, potatoes and tomatoes.

We use organic marjoram in our Savoury Herb and Italian Herb blends.
